About Me:
I am researcher who studies how adopted and improvised technologies affect social capital in fostering identity development, economic agency and collective participation among both online and physical world communities. My area of studies are Asia and America, with a particular focus on China and low-income communities in America. I blog about Chinese youth culture, media, and technology over at YouMeiTI 有媒体 (www.youmeiti.com). In a previous chapter I developed and ran youth-based participatory technology programs for the likes of the United Nations, NASA, Student Planet (Beijing), and the New York City public school system. I have also worked as a digital video editor, documentary producer, media literacy teacher and youth media developer. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Sociology at University of California, San Diego.
